Shawn

My name is Shawn.  I am a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe.  In Indian Country, we have no step-children.  We just have our children.  But, for all you non-Indians…I have one biological daughter (3), two half daughters (6&7), and one adopted daughter (18).  I am single.  I attended public school in Great Falls until the 9th grade.  I then dropped out.  I obtained my GED later that same year.  I re-entered high school in Utah and earned my high school diploma.  After that, I attended Job Corps, Advanced Communications, University of Great Falls and the Diversity Institute at Vanderbilt University.  I lived a portion of my early life in Tennessee.  I returned to Montana.  I lived in Helena since 2000.  My journalism career started in the late 80s.  While attending school, I was voted to be the Indian Club President.  But, I very quickly got into a public debate on how the Indian Education funds were being used.  It ended up being a three-day series on the evening news and several key individuals resigning. Opps.  I also helped start the first Pow wow held in Great Falls in over a century.  And I did a lot of research for the Ulm Piskun Buffalo Jump for the Historical Society before it became a state park.  In junior high school, I published a small publication on Indian issues.  While attending Job Corps, I helped start the Native American Student Group.  It was the first ethnic self-supporting club in the Job Corps nationwide.  Then, in 2000, I started a publication in Helena that focused on state legislation affecting Indian country.  In 2002, I finished school at the Diversity Institute for minorities in journalism.  I worked at the Independent Record until 2004.  I started another publication called Native Journal.  I also started White Wolf Media Distributing.  I sit on the Board of the Women’s Equality and Economic Liberation.  I also am a member of the Republican Indian Task Force.  I sit on the Anti-Racism Reconciliation Team of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Helena.  I am also a Deacon at FCCHelena.  I manage the Helena office of the Montana United Indian Association.  I am a former board member of the Helena Indian Alliance, former chairman Economic Committee of the Sixth Ward and Midtowne Neighborhood District and several more committees. In 2007, I launched my first bid for public office.  I ran as a Republican candidate for House District 79 in Helena.  I own a substantial amount of tribal land on reservations in Montana and South Dakota.  My last venture has been the launch of the White Wolf Media Group.  Under its umbrella, we started Native View.  In 2008, The White Wolf Media Group has hosted six major public events throughout Montana.  In addition, I have given presentations on anti-racism in several towns and cities throughout Montana.  I love Cheeseburgers, walking and being with friends.
